Behind the scenes

These are two pictures I took while recording. In the images we can see the set up I used. Firstly I utilized the black curtains to be the background. And on the floor we layed a black material. The reason for the background is because I just wanted the band members to be the focal and nothing else. Learning from my previous mistake of having too much of a low key lighting here I have used to lighting stands. This helped to see the members more clearly. Finally, I used a tripod. This helped capture the controlled stable shots. I tried using a dolly. However, the surface was too bumpy. So it didn't look well on camera. To solve this problem I took more hand held shots to capture movement with the camera. I think the hand held helped to have a greater relationship with the rock genre and it worked well in the video.

Limited Edition Cover

I had the spare time so I thought I would play around with the CD cover. This is what I came up with and thought this could be used to make a limited edition of the 'DON'T CARE' album as they are more valuable and this would grab the the consumers eye more as it is surreal and has no tect so the focus is from a visual artistic form.

Final Advert

In the final advert I placed the other members and rearranged the information so that we can see the music artists clearly.

Final Digipak Design

In the final digipak design I just tweaked the hues and contrast so the all the elements of the product blended together well. Furthermore, I added the copyright information to the CD.

Poster draft 1

The reason why I chose this shot of the lead for the poster is because I didn't want a generic front shot. Furthermore, I chose this shot because I like that he is doing something in the shot. This gives more action and people will more likely be drawn to this.

Digipak draft 1

As you can see that this design is different from my plan. The reason for this change is because I wanted to make the digipak more artistic like most indie-rock digipaks are like.

Looking at indie rock CD covers

I found out that the cover designs were very artistic and in a way mysterious. They are very chaotic like 20 minute loop’s CD cover or very simple and minimalistic like The Black Keys – Your touch the EP. They really give us any clear direct information about the music inside which creates this wonderful mystery. This made sense as the artist or band wouldn’t be well known. Therefore, in a music store the music can only gain appeal, visually.

Digipak Plan

This is the plan that I will follow for the design for my digipak.

Starting with the poster

Here I've roughly placed the elements I want in the poster. The font is Gotic and refers to the genre of the theme of the music video.

I found that the background seemed to bland. So i decided to add some texture to the background.
I decided to apply the red rays as a influence to draw the viewer to look at the poster. However, my peer found that the poster lacked a somber darkness. Therefor I will make further edits to refer more to this element.

In this set of edits I de-saturated the rays to have that dark feel. I applied information for the release of the album,  website and twitter account so the viewer can get in contact and gain more information about the band. I have applied a plan for where I would imagine the image of the lead singer would be and the album cover.

Studying existing indie music group posters

Here are some posters advertising indie bands or singers. I used these as reference for my poster. I was looking at the font style, layout, colours and design.

However, my teacher thought i should refer to the darker side of the music video. Therefore I looked at this poster for reference to bring in the dark element to the piece.

The New Theatrical Narrative

One of my peers said it would be original and appealing to capture the narrative in a theatrical form. I explored this idea and thought it would be a great idea as we would effectively present the narrative in a more dynamic and dark. I had the concept in my mind. However, my partner didn't understand. So I exacted this exercise so my partner could see my idea. Furthermore, it'll help to plan for the shooting on the day. The spotlights are in a sense a scene and while recording we'll explore into these scenes.

Battle - Tendancy music video

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xcybzh_battle-tendency_music#.UYK-m8oU0nU
I like this music video as it plays with spotlights and scenarios are created within these spotlights. There isn't a great sense of a narrative. However, the shots look so visually interesting it doesn't seem to need it but if it did I think it would be great. I will use this music video as reference for my music video.

Trouble with recording at an outside location
We both concluded that waiting for the weather to get better was hopeless.
We decided to do the shooting of the whole music video in drama pod. This meant we could with ease record during school days.

Narrative being too over the top based on time
Vlad found that the narrative was getting too surreal to the extent that the viewer would find it confusing in a bad way
We concluded that I shout make the music video more linear to an extent.

Problems with the drummer
Me and Vlad found that the drummer was not performing well to our standards. He was hitting the drums off beat.
We are going to look for another person to perform for the drummer, who will be able to perform better.

Pictures of location for narrative

Getting to Epping forest took a long time and since it was early January it was very cold. The location was very nice however there were to many problems. Therefore we have to find a local park area or think of a different way to present the narrative.
